Experience a hands-on Web 2.0 quick training that demonstrates popular Web 2.0 Tools and how to use them to engage student learning, increase academic performance and creativity in the K-12 classroom. Examples will be demonstrated and lesson ideas will be shared during this interactive session.

I. Wallwisher
  • Free website
  • Used as a digital bulletin board where students can post questions, hypotheses, etc.

II. WikiSpaces
  • Use a website to collaberate
1. Could be a neat way to work with another school 
2. Pages can be set to "private"
  • Used as a teaching tool
  • Can imbed videos, Google calendar, powerpoint presentations, etc.
  • Can also be used by the PTL 
1. Post fundraisers, activities, pledge pages, calendars
III. Prezi
  • Powerpoint alternate--free--sign up on the Educator License
1. Online only
2. Needs Flash 
3. Slides can zoom around a single page instead of linking multiple slides
a. Can also imbed YouTube videos
  • Students enjoy it

IV. Google Docs
  • "word" portion
  • Survey Monkey
1. Create surveys (free) and collect and analyze data
  • Extended feature (for a fee) will graph results
  • Stores surveys until manually deleted

V. Quizlet
  • Build flashcards and take online quizzes
  • Flahcardlete app can be helpful
  • Any subject or language, grade level as well
  • Includes audio flashcards
1. Helpful for foreign language
  • Cards can be saved in your account (great for prepping for semester exams)

VI. Create QR Code Creator
  • Allows students with smart phones, etc, to access websites without having to write the URL (probably not useful for middle school and below)

VII. Tagxedo
  • Like Wordle
  • Make a word cloud into a shape
  • Copy and paste text or type in key words
1. Most commonly used words will show up larger
2. Could be helpful for short stories to see overusage of transitional words
3. Could be great for poetry!
VIII. Wordle
  • Like Tagxedo but the shape must be a square
  • Could also be used to make t-shirts for organizations

IX. Blabberize
  • Animate a photograph 
1. Carve out the face to make it talk 
2. Use voice over technologies to make the photo talk
  • Can be used to take an image of a person from history and have them give a famous speech.

X. Bubbl.us
  • Brainstorming website
1. Create any type of a word web
2. Students can work together
3. All color coded4. Boxes are manipulatable
XI. Glogster
  • Digital Poster
1. Used for virtual science fairs 
2. Allows parents to view student work 
3. I feel like we tried this but it didn't work...
XII. Animoto
  • Educator link--10 minute credit with Education Application
  • Video creator (such as MovieMaker and iMovie)
  • Alternative to a book report 

XIII. Voki
  • Create an avitar and record your voice
  • Used for book talks--a lot of library website use this
1. Introduce the book using a character from the book that they create as an avitar
2. Advertises different books in the libarary3. Can use accents and foreign languages (has a translator, though may not be dependable).
XIV. Voice Thread
  • Used to share ideas
1. Can use video as well
2. Can comment on each other's projects using typed comments, voice, or video

XVI. Wix
  • Webpage design software
1. FREE 
2. Create class websites
XVII. CommonCraft
  • Videos 
  • Simple--white background, simple drawings
1. Good for plot mapping
2. Good for science explanations of earthquakes, plate tectonics
3. Social studies--events of a hirstoric event in a timeline
  • Need to sign up
  • Can view others already created

XVIII. Storybird
  • A digital story making program--FREE
  • Can use artwork (created by amateaur artists)
  • Could be a great final draft for The Path!
  • Stories can be saved to the website to be viewed by others, emailed, etc.

XIX. Text Message
  • Create polls or quizzes
  • Text your answer using your phone (nope)
1. Can also use a URL...Yes! 
2. Basically a free version of a NEO
